Admission criteria to Undergraduate Engineering Programs at NITs, IIITs, Other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, Institutions funded by participating State Governments, and other Institutions shall include the performance in the class 12/equivalent qualifying Examination and in the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE (Main). The Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.) of JEE (Main) will also be an eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced), which the candidate has to take if he/she is aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programmes offered by the IITs.CBSE has defined JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2018. The eligibility criteria of JEE Main 2018 are set norms which the candidates must satisfy in order to appear for the exam. The criteria are concerned with Age Limit, Education Qualification, Number of Attempts, etc

JEE Mains Eligibility Criteria:

A. Age Criteria:

a. All candidates (General and OBC) born on or after October 1st, 1993 are eligible to apply for JEE Mains 2018.
b. For SC, ST and PwD candidates, the age limit has been relaxed and should have born on or after October 1st, 1988 for being eligible.

B. Minimum marks required for IIT JEE Mains:

1.     There shall be no weightage for the 12th class marks in calculating the ranks in the JEE (Main) examination,
2.     For the candidates to qualify for the admission in the IITs/NITs/IIITs and such other CFTIs whose admissions are based on the JEE (Advanced)/JEE(Main) ranks, they should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class examination conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST students the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class examination.

C. Attempts allowed:

a. An aspirant can avail a maximum of 3 attempts in a JEE Mains exam and for applying in JEE Advanced exam, a student can appear only 2 consecutive times.

D. Number of subjects in the Qualifying Examination (QE)

 Candidates must have taken at least five subjects in class 12th/qualifying examination in order to be eligible for writing JEE (Main) - 2018. The candidates who have taken four subjects are not permitted to write JEE (Main) 2018 .

E.  Mode of Examination

The Paper-1 (B.E./B. Tech.) of JEE(Main) is  conducted in two separate modes i.e.
Offline (Pen and Paper Based Examination) mode and Online (Computer Based Examination) mode. The Paper-2 (B. Arch./B. Planning.) of JEE (Main) will be conducted only in Pen and Paper based examinationmode. A candidate will opt for either Pen and Paper Based or Computer Based examination modes for Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.) only.

B.Tech admissions at NITs, IIITs and GFTIS: Candidates must have secured a minimum of 75% marks in their qualifying exams in addition to qualifying in JEE Main 2018 OR must be in the top 20 percentile of their 10+2 board.

B.Arch/ B.Planning Admissions: Candidates are required to have mathematics as compulsory subject along with 75% marks in total including five subjects in addition to qualifying in JEE Main Paper 2.
